Text in English: A pilaster in the shape of a horn-blowing putto. The only one of its kind in the Vasa collection.
Site location
The sculpture was found deep in the hold where it must have fallen from somewhere in the main cabin or similar place.
Traces of red paint could be seen on the sculpture at the excavation.
Location on ship
The location of the sculpture is uncertain, but probably somewhere on the aftercastle.
Woodcarver unknown. Judging by the workmanship, the sculpture was made by Johann Thesson, the same woodcarver who made the putti on the Vasa family coat of arms (e.g. No. 00979) and the instrument-playing "child orchestra" (e.g. No. 06725).
