Modellbyggare Viktor Carlsson i Gökalund
Victor Johan Carlsson föddes den 1 januari 1884 i Kärrabo, Bergkvara, yngst av tre bröder. Alla gick till sjöss. På fritiden byggde han fartygsmodeller men yrkesmodellbyggare blev han först efter en avmönstring i New York 1914 då han efter en tid blev anställd av Max Williams, ägare till en kuriosabutik som också handlade med fartygsmodeller.
1925 reste han tillbaka hem till Gökalund och år 1931 började han bygga fartygsmodeller för gamla Sjöfartsmuseet i Stockholm.
Under denna tid planerades för en utställning med fartygsmodeller i skala 1:200, vilken visar valda nordiska fartygstyper från järnåldern fram till nutid. Tanken var att utställningen skulle bli klar till det nya Sjöhistoriska museet som invigdes 1938.
På museet arbetade sjökaptenen och konservatorn Sam Svensson som skickade brev med arbetsbeskrivningar och förenklade ritningar till Victor som under 1931-1937 byggde ca fyrtio modeller till utställningen i skala 1:200. För museet byggde han huvudsakligen modeller av "historiska typer": vikingaskepp, kogg, kravel, flöjt, fullriggare, barkskepp mm från 1800 och 1900 talen samt några ångfartygsmodeller.
Victor Carlsson blev känd som en av Sveriges bästa modellbyggare. Söderåkra kyrka och Bergkvara kapell har votivskepp byggda av honom. Även svenska kyrkan i London ska ha en modell byggd av honom. 1965 avled han i Bergkvara, 81 år gammal.
Victor Carlsson blev med åren förknippad med en viss typ av modeller, i liten skala och av hög klass. Dessa modeller kallas helt enkelt "Gökalundare".
