Korgen tillhörde familjen Rosen som bestod av paret Viktor och Erika Rosen och deras barn Ivar och Margit. Den 4 november 1943 packade de sin fiskebåt och reste med sikte på Sverige. För att inte bli upptäckta och stoppade av den tyska ockupationsmakten reste de på kvällen. Margit Rosen, som då var åtta år, minns hur hennes far då och då tittade på kompassen med en ficklampa.
På grund av storm och sjögång blev de dock tvungna att stanna i Finland, varifrån de senare åkte vidare till Sverige.
