Född och uppvuxen i Nyköping började han i Elin Svenssons teaterskola 1919. Han blev där och under kommande äventyrligt turnéliv kamrat med Weyler Hildebrand, Nils Ferlin och Harald Beijer. Samtidigt som han studerade på Elin Svenssons teaterskola, hade han tillfällig anställning hos Albert Ranft vid Svenska Teatern och Vasateatern.
På sommaren 1920 blev han knuten till Råsunda friluftsteater samt på vintern samma år till Leopold Edins sällskap, där han fäste uppmärksamheten vid sig som Jack Chesney i Charleys tant. Han skrev även tiotalet folklustspel, det första var Smugglarkungen (1929). 1932-1937 var han knuten till Folkets hus teatern som drevs av Ragnar Klange som en i huvudsak revyteater. Som Loffe var han ofta en Ekenkis och talade ekensnack (gammal stockholmsdialekt). Han fick sitt genombrott 1934 i Kar de Mumma-revyn med monologen "Fotbollsakademin", vilket gjorde honom till hela Sveriges "Kisen".
Elof Ahrle medverkade i 77 filmer, regisserade ibland och skrev manus till bland andra Sextetten Karlsson (1945), som byggde på en närmast självbiografisk bok. Han fick som dramatisk skådespelare en lyckad start i Herbert Grevenius Krigsmans erinran (1947) och fortsatte bland annat i Arthur Millers En handelsresandes död i folkparkerna 1959.
Ahrle var 1931-1939 gift med Naemi Briese och från 1940 med Birgit Rosengren. Han var son till mejeriägaren Karl August Karlsson och Karolina Matilda Carlson och är far till skådespelaren Leif Ahrle och sångerskan Carina Ahrle. Han är också farbror till skådespelaren Ulf Qvarsebo.
Rosengren studerade vid Dramatens elevskola 1931-1933. Hon medverkade i Kar de Mummas revy på Blancheteatern 1931 och 1937. Hon filmdebuterade 1934 i Schamyl Baumans Flickorna från Gamla stan. 1945 drabbades hon av polio och tvingades till ett tio års långt scenuppehåll. Birgit Rosengren arbetade även under många år för Sveriges Radio i Stockholm.
Hon blev som 92-åring mycket uppmärksammad då hon år 2004 berättade om sitt eget liv i SVT:s program "Det goda samtalet" för journalisten och programledaren Suzanne Axell. Efter programmet fick Rosengren en "andra karriär" och hade en föreläsningsserie på bibliotek tillsammans med sin son Leif Ahrle. Intervjun med Birgit Rosengren blev också ett av det mest sedda programmen i "Det goda samtalets" historia.
Birgit Rosengren var gift första gången med skådespelaren Elof Ahrle från 1940 till hans död 1965 och andra gången med skådespelaren Eric Gustafson från 1977 fram till hans död 1981. Hon är mor till kostymtecknaren Carina Ahrle och skådespelaren Leif Ahrle samt var syster till operettsångerskan Margit Rosengren. Hon är begravd på Norra begravningsplatsen i Stockholm.
Allan Bernving föddes 1911. Han skildrade Öland i ord och bild under de decennier när landet förändrades; främst 1950- och 1960-talen. Bernvings intresse för historia och lokala företeelser ledde till att han fotograferade stort och smått; ofta sådant som han förstod var nära att försvinna eller sådant som var nyheter. Så har han t ex två bildserier om skörd, en med självbindare från 1958 och en med skördetröska från 1960. Sådana bilder är oersättliga för att belysa jordbrukets förvandling i mitten av 1900-talet.
Han var lokalredaktör på Öland för Östra Småland 1950-1965 men fortsatte att fotografera även därefter. Enligt utsago från journalistkolleger var det då hustrun som tog bilderna efter Bernvings instruktioner.
I 40-årsåldern blev Allan Bernving döv och blind. Försämringen gick gradvis och tvang honom till sist att sluta som journalist. Istället engagerade Bernving sig för de dövblindas situation. Rätten till tolk var t ex inte alls självklar för denna grupp. Engagemanget ledde till att Bernving 1975-1983 var ordförande i de svenska dövblindas riksförbund. I september 1977 var han en del av den svenska delegationen till de dövblindas världskongress i New York.
Allan Bernving avled 1993.
