Gården Björneborg är belägen mellan byarna Gryt och Attersta, i Gällersta socken, söder om Örebro stad. Området är bördigt och präglas av jordbruksmark och tidigare av jordbruksverksamhet. Här fanns förr många såväl stora som små bondgårdar. Genom byn Attersta rinner Täljeån som givit möjlighet till vattenkraft och här fanns förr åtta kvarnar och ett par sågar.
Områdena närmast kring Örebro är mycket bördiga och har präglats av jordbruksmark och jordbruk. Under 1900-talets andra hälft, i takt med en allt större industrialisering och mer storskalig drift av jordbruket har många jordbruk lagts ned och bondgårdarna blivit ”vanliga” bostäder. Under 1900-talets slut och framförallt under 2000-talets början har Örebro stad växt kraftigt och ny mark i nära anslutning till staden har tagits i anspråk för bland annat bostäder. Även andra verksamheter som behövs för stadens invånare har med detta växt.
Atleverket är Örebro stads avfallsanläggning och ligger alldeles norr om gården Björneborg. I takt med att stadens invånare och olika typer av verksamheter och näringar växer, växer även avfallsanläggningen. Verksamheten på avfallsanläggningen påverkar intilliggande områden och Örebro kommun har köpt gården Björneborg.
Björneborg är ett exempel på en större jordbruksfastighet eller gård i nära anslutning till Örebro stad. Kring staden har det funnit många gårdar, sprungna ur olika typer av verksamheter och för olika ändamål, med tillhörande mark. I takt med att staden växer försvinner gårdarna och/eller deras marker används för ny bebyggelse. Det innebär att strukturen för den äldre stadsnära bebyggelsen försvinner.
Örebro läns museum har därför dokumenterat gården Björneborg, framförallt genom fotografering.
