Plattformslift för rullstolar, Miro-Lift Type MA 12. Tillverkad i Schweiz av företaget Mirolit AG.
Kurt Hultgren såg under tiden han var ordförande i SJs handikappråd till att plattformsliftar anskaffades som ett led i att skapa tillgänglighet till tågresor under slutet av 1980-talet, början av 1990-talet. En variant av plattformslift köptes in på upphandling i ett rätt stort antal. Främst var det till nattågen som det behövdes liftar till, eftersom resenärerna måste komma ombord för att kunna använda den rymliga sovkupén i ena vagnsänden i vissa vagnar. Det handlade om vagnar till lokdragna tåg. Enligt en tjänsteman på Trafikverket som förmedlat gåvan användes plattformsliftarna i huvudsak till Intercitytågen, de lokdragna tågen med 1980-talsvagnar. X2-orna hade från början inbyggda liftar. SJ var då ledande i kollektivtrafiken i Sverige och var faktiskt ledande i handikappanpassning i Europa.
Det gjordes ett stort projekt, initierat av EU, COST 335 Accessibility to heavy Rail - där olika länders olika lösningar studerades och analyserades. Kurt Hultgren m.fl. reste runt hela Europa och såg på olika sorters lösningar, och det fanns många goda idéer i andra länder också, så Sverige låg bra till, men inte bäst på allt. COST-rapporten om "best practice" låg i botten för den första EU-förordningen om handikappanpassning. Bakgrunden för SJs del var den tillgänglighetsdevis som också ledde till ramper, självöppnande dörrar, hissar m.m, nämligen "Det som är nödvändigt för somliga är underlättande för alla". Rullstosliftarna var nog en av de få saker som så gott som uteslutande användes av just rullstolsresenärer, men även personer med kryckor fick använda dem. Det var för det mesta stationär personal som hjälpte till, mest SJs egen, men även tågpersonalen i vissa fall. Resgodspersonal var stationär personal på stationerna vid denna tid och brukade hjälpa till med detta. En ombordpersonal på SJ tåg som museet har intervjuat hanterade aldrig liften och förklarar det med att det var ovanligt att personer med rullstol reste med tåg då. Däremot berättar hon att de fick utbildning i liftarna på X2000 och hur rullstolen skulle spännas fast ombord på tåget. Tidigare användes transportstolen "Tripp" (se Jvm19322). Då tog ombordpersonalen ofta hjälp av resgodspersonalen på stationen som kom ut och hjälpte till. Det var tungt att hjälpa personer upp i tåget med transportstolen så när liftarna kom blev de ett bra hjälpmedel.
Tåg som skulle vara utrustade med inbyggd lyft eller vagnar på en sträcka där det skulle finnas stationär plattformslift men den hade försvunnit var kända av resenärerna så att de resenär som önskade kunde bestämma sig för att åka med just de tågen eller på den sträckan. När sedan den sortens vagnar med inbyggd lyft togs ur trafik på den aviserade sträckan, beslöt SJ för löftets skull att ett färdtjänstfordon skulle köras den utlovade sträckan. Det hände några enstaka gånger, men det var ett sätt att visa pålitlighet.
Plattformsliftarna för rullstol har inte använts på mer än ett decennium och när museet hörde av sig till Trafikverket hösten 2021 i frågan om insamling av föremål kopplade till tillgänglighet och resande med olika funktionshinder erbjöds Järnvägsmuseet den plattformslift som stod kvar på stationen i Gävle men som var på väg att skrotas.
Idag har alla tåg antingen insteg i plan (t ex Reginatågen, de som kör Tåg i Bergslagen och SJ3000) så att resenärerna kommer på utan lift eller inbyggda liftar (X2000 har det t ex i vagn 6 och de lokdragna tågen har en vagn med inbyggd lift).
