Gummerade frimärken i häfte, med tio frimärken i fem motiv av fynd från vikingatiden i guld, silver, och brons. Valör 7 kr.
Vikingatiden upphör aldrig att fascinera. Föremål från dennna dynamiska epok i Sveriges historia är också mycket efterfrågade som frimärksmotiv. Denna gång presenteras hela den epok vari vikingatiden är en del, nämligen yngre järnåldern som sträckte sig från cirka 550 e Kr till omkring år 1050. De avbildade föremålen i olika ädelmetaller kommer från fem olika fyndplatser i landet, och finns idag på Historiska Muséet i Stockholm (SHM) och Lunds universitets historiska muséeum (LUHM).
Motiven är följande:
A) tre små nakna figuriner i guld och förgylld brons. Sannolikt från fyndplatsen Lunda utanför Strängnäs.
B) ett hängsmycke i form av en kvinnogestalt i silver och med förgyllning, troligen gudinnan Freja. Sannolikt från Aska i närheten av Vadstena i Östergötland.
C) En krigare som begravts med sin häst, med sitt svärd och ett stränginstrument, passande för en man med en krigisk och kulturell sida. Sannolikt från Broa på Gotland.
D) En liten Buddhafigur i brons. Sannolikt från 500-talet och nordvästra Indien, som sedan av okänd anledning hamnat i graven från Helgö i Mälaren. Man vet att Helgö var en länk i ett kontaktnät med förgreningar utanför Skandinavien.
E) Ett förgyllt beslag föreställande en flygande man, antingen guden Oden eller den mytiske mästersmeden Völund som i en legend flög ut fångenskapen med hjälp av ett par vingar. Sannolikt från fyndplatsen Uppåkraboplatsen utanför Lund i Skåne.
