Moulage är verklighetstrogna, tredimensionella (patologiska) modeller (oftast vaxmodeller) som användes för dokumentation och som kom att bli pedagogiskt material i den medicinska undervisningen under 1800-talets andra hälft och senare.
Denna modell är tillverkad av Dr. /medicinare/Wiener Moulageuren Karl Henning (1860-1917) i Wien. Han daterade och signerade alltid sina moulage. Det finns modeller från åren 1890 till 1917. Sonen Theodor Henning tog senare över tillverkningen.
Avgjutningarna är gjorda i en massa, ”Abdruckmasse”, som heter elastin/Elastine. Materialet var Hennings egen upptäckt. Elastin är ett protein i bindväven på levande varelser, ett elastiskt ämne som gör att formen återtar till sin ursprungliga form efter tryck.
Materialet elastin användes vid tillverkning av proteser. Karl (ibland Carl) Henning var duktig på att göra proteser för människor med skador.
Samlingar av Karl Henning finns på flera stora medicinska institutioner i Mellaneuropa.
