Ringen med en liten figur som sitter framför en dataskärm är typisk för det sena 1900-talets masstillverkade plastleksaker. Den är en s.k. Polly Pocketfigur som från 1989 tillverkades av det brittiska företaget Bluebird Toys, men som 1998 övertogs av Origin Products Ltd, Mattel Inc. Polly Pocketfigurerna blev på 1990-talet populära över hela världen och tillverkas fortfarande, men fick en annan storlek och annat utseende efter ägarbytet. Detta exemplar måste vara ett av de tidigaste, eftersom det är tillverkat 1989. Ringen är smycke och leksak i ett. Figuren och skrivbordet med datorn går att ta loss från ringen och leka med separat. Motiven är hämtade från vardagslivet med olika sysslor från arbete och fritid.
Ringen inköptes 2010 tillsammans med hundratals begagnade plastleksaker som rekvisita till Nordiska museets utställning Plast! som visades 2010-06-04--2011-01-09.
Ett urval till museets samling med leksaker gjordes i maj 2011 i samråd med fyra prao-elever, som fick till uppgift att välja ut och beskriva föremål de kände igen från sin barndom. Anna, 14 år, från Stockholm, valde att skriva om Polly Pocketfigurer som var en av hennes favoritleksaker när hon var liten. Hon tyckte att de tidiga exemplaren var välgjorda och uppskattade att det alltid gick att ta med sig leksaken vart hon än gick. Hon gillade att fantisera ihop berättelser om figurernas liv, arbete och boende. Se även slott NM.2011:19-1.
Anna, 14 år, Stockholm, skriver:
”Jag lekte med de här föremålen som liten. Kanske när jag var i 5-7 årsåldern. Jag kommer ihåg att jag hade alla figurer i en liten trälåda. Det var ganska många figurer. Några specifika figurer jag kommer ihåg är en balettdansös, en gumma, ett spöke, diverse Disneyfigurer med tillhörande miljöer, sjöjungfrur osv. Jag hade många hus också. Jag hade bl a några helt vanliga hus, en mataffär, ett hus som såg ut som ett guldigt smyckeskrin, slott, dansstudio och många fler. Jag kommer ihåg att de flesta figurerna hade sina egna hus som de alltid bodde i. De allra flesta hade speciella yrken och familjer också. Fast det kunde variera lite. Jag har för mig att jag hade mina hus i en skokartong. Varje gång jag skulle leka med sakerna så fick jag börja om på nytt. Det fanns hus som alltid låg bredvid varandra men det var ändå nytt på något vis. Jag minns att jag ibland fokuserade lite extra mycket på en särskild figur, t ex balettdansösen, doktorn eller någon av de rika tvillingarna. När jag ser de här föremålen så minns jag hur det var att leka när jag var liten. Dessutom så kommer jag ihåg hur ledsen jag blev när de började tillverka de nya 'Polly Pocket' leksakerna. De här är ju så mycket finare!”
