Skrivbordslampan Toucan Pelican Desk Lamp, formgavs av H. T. Huang från Taiwan under 1980-talet. Den är ett exempel på en postmodernistisk lampa med humor och färg i formgivningen, under påverkan från Memphisgruppen, en grupp italienska formgivare som var trötta på modernismens strama enkelhet i föremål och interiörer och ville ha in fantasi, färg och lekfullhet i formgivningen (1981-1988). Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007), Memphisgruppens grundare: "When I was young, all we ever heard was Functionalism, Functionalism, Functionalism. It is not enought. Design should also be sensual and exciting".
Toucan Pelican Desk Lamp var i produktion under hela 1990-talet och finns då och då till försäljning på auktionshusen både i Sverige och utomlands [2017]. Säljaren köpte lampan i en antikaffär, troligen i Visby, omkring 2007. Säljarens man valde lampan. De tyckte att den var "en kul retropryl och inredningsdetalj" och har använt den som skrivbordslampa i sonens rum när han var 3-4 år gammal. Familjen bor i villa i Nockebyhov, Bromma. "Lampan fick mycket uppmärksamhet av gäster för sitt roliga utseende, men vi upplevde skenet som lite kallt. Använd som en rolig detalj som stack ut i vår hemmiljö. Många gillade den."
Den ursprungliga tanken, vuxendesign utan modernismens allvarliga funktionskrav, har i en annan tid reducerat lampan till rolig design för barn.
