Anses vara det tidigaste kända brevet mellan två privatpersoner från Sverige till London.
Före 1636, då svenska postväsendet inrättades, fanns ingen reguljär postgång mellan Sverige och övriga Europa. På kontinenten var däremot postbefrodran väl utbyggd redan under 1500-talet och Hamburg var en av knutpunkterna i detta postnätverk. För privatpersoner i Sverige som ville skicka brev till utlandet var det alltså nödvändigt att anlita en resande som kunde ta med sig brevet till en ort som ingick i det europeiska postnätet.
Brevet har lämnats till en "kurir" som i detta fall skulle passera Hamburg. "Kuriren" har troligen färdats landvägen från Stockholm söderut hela vägen via Danmark till Hamburg. Alternativet är att brevet lämnats till någon besättningsman på ett fartyg destinerat till Hamburg. Med tanke på att det är mitt i vintern är detta alternativ mindre troligt.
Noterbart är att det tog nästan två månader att färdas från Stockholm till Hamburg och ytterligare en månad från Hamburg till London.
