Korgen har tillhört Rosas syster Viktoria Karlsson, född 22/10 1885, i Åslemåla, Ålem socken. Det var Viktorias skolkorg där hon hade mjölk och smörgås, och en bok, katekesen tror Rosa, det var på 1890-talet. Senare har korgen använts att ha ägg i. Rosa tror att korgen var köpt på någon marknad eller i Mönsterås dit man brukade fara och handla. Viktoria gifte sig aldrig, efter att föräldrarna med sina tre vuxna barn flyttade till Högsrums socken på Öland 1925 började Viktoria att väva till Hemslöjdsbutiken i Kalmar.

Viktorias skolkorg
Vad kan en enkel korg med lock och två grepar berätta?
Det kunde ha stannat vid att det är en trevlig liten korg tillverkad av pil, men den bär på flera historier.
Korgen tillhörde Viktoria Karlsson, född 1885 i Åslemåla, en mindre skogsby i Ålems socken. Viktoria använde den som skolkorg. I den förvarade hon sin medhavda mjölk, smörgås och naturligtvis katekesen. Långt senare användes den till att förvara ägg i.
Viktoria hade tur som växte upp i Ålem. Åslemåla hade fått egen skola 1875 och den ambulerande skolundervisningen som tidigare flyttat omkring hade gjorts om till fast undervisning 1888. När Viktoria gick i skolan på 1890-talet, undervisades skolans fyra årsklasser av en lärare samtidigt, i en så kallad E-skola.
Skolväsendet var tidigt förhållandevis väl ordnat i Ålems socken. Möjligen kan den långa skoltraditionen med Skytteanska skolan i Ålem, som startade redan under 1600-talet, ha gynnat utvecklingen. Ändå var det inte ovanligt att förespråkare för en förbättrad undervisning mötte stort motstånd då skolfrågor kom på beslutsfattarnas bord.
Uppgifter säger att korgen troligen är köpt på Mönsterås marknad. Mönsterås marknader var de viktigaste marknaderna för Ålemsborna vid den här tiden. Där kunde de både köpa och sälja varor av allehanda slag.
Viktoria gifte sig aldrig utan flyttade som vuxen tillsammans med sina syskon och föräldrar till Högsrum på Öland, där hon arbetade med vävning. Under 1920-talet och flera decennier framåt levererade hon allt från trasmattor i rosengång och dukar i munkabälte till material för Ölandsdräkten, och mycket mer till Hemslöjdsbutiken i Kalmar.
Korgen överlämnades som gåva 1995 till länsmuseet av Viktorias syster Rosa Karlsson.
