Under senare delen 1900-talet har allt fler varor som marknadsförs till barn börjat synas i dagligvaruhandeln. Barnen tilltalas direkt på varornas förpackningar, som en tydligt definierad konsumentgrupp, och behandlas därmed som självständiga och kompetenta konsumenter i den kommersiella retoriken. Tidigare, under 1900-talets förra hälft, riktades reklam för varor ämnade åt barn snarare till föräldrarna, som ställföreträdare för barns intressen. Flingpaket utgör ett tydligt exempel på hur barn adresseras som konsumenter på 2000-talets dagligvarumarknad, genom visuella markörer och koder som används i marknadsföringen. Formspråk och tilltal säger i sin tur något om samtidens normer och ideal kring barn, barndom och konsumtion som produceras och reproduceras i vardagens kommersiella miljöer.
Flingpaketet ingår i en större samling förpackningar som analyserats i samband med ett forskningsprojekt om butikens, förpackningarnas och varuhandelns historia, se ”Coco Pops, Kalaspuffar och leksaker. En visuell analys av barntilltalet på flingpaketen" i Burkar, påsar och paket. Förpackningarnas historia i vardagens konsumtionskulturer (Nordiska museet 2010). Den visades även i utställningen "Burkar, påsar och paket" under september 2010 till april 2011.
