Lars Andersen ble født i Bergen 1847.
Fotograferte i Ålesund i 1870-årene, brukte da kartonger med Lr. Anderson, pyntet med Bergens byvåben, men hvorvidt han også fotograferte i Bergen på den tiden vet en ikke sikkert. Muligens var han identisk med L. Andersen, som i 1866 bestyrte det atelieret i Bergen som Valentin Voss Ritscher hadde startet noen år tidligere. Ifølge opplysninger fra hans datter skal han ha overtatt forretning i Ålesund (startet 1863) etter N. Henriksen, som reiste derfra i 1874. I 1882 overtok han driften av en av Ålesunds første fotografers, L. Hansens, atelier. Fotograferte også en tid i Kristiansund. 25.11.1886 averterte han sitt nye atelier i Smaastrandgaden 2 i Bergen, og fotograferte fremdeles i Bergen da han i 1887 averterte at han overtok N. Henriksens forretning i Haugesund, hvor han allerede i 1889 flyttet til nytt atelier i "Hr. Andas forrige Hus, Strandgaden, 6te Hus ret Nord af Postkontoret". Denne var imidlertid allerede ca. 1885 blitt overtatt av Henry Hansen, som kalte seg "N. Henriksens Efterf.", så sannsynligheten taler for at Anderson overtok etter Hansen. Kanskje har de samarbeidet en kort tid. Han brukte både navneformen Andersen og Anderson, mest det siste, som han antok etter en tur i Amerika.Virkested:
