Frans Oscar Carlsson mönstrade i början av 1890-talet på AEOLUS. Var han seglat dessförinnan eller var och när han skulle ha tagit sina examina vet man inte. Utnämndes 1902 till befälhavare på AEOLUS, men drabbades samtidigt av hjärtfel vilket hindrade en vidare karriär till sjöss. Byggandet av AEULOS modellen hade han påbörjat långt innan. Under många vintrars seglationsstopp och under frivaktstimmar ombord hade han bl.a. format det spantbyggda skrovet och tillverkat delar av ångmaskinen. När han tvingades att gå iland fyllde byggandet av modellen hans tid. Ingen dokumentation av byggandet finns endast en summarisk byggnadsspecifikation och en beräkning av antalet timmar som byggandet skulle ha tagit i medeltal 10-12 timmar per arbetsdag under sju års tid (ca 30.000 timmar). Modellen var klar kort innan Frans Oskar Carlsson dog i maj 1912.
Modellen köptes in till museet genom museets vänförening Föreningen Sveriges Sjöfartsmuseum i Stockholm 1915 av F. O. Carlssons änka Albertina Carlsson.
