Skorna har tillhört Bertil Högström, som har varit mycket intresserad av kläder under sitt liv. Han har varit något konservativ i sin klädsel och gärna haft kläder från England, dit han bland annat genom sitt arbete reste ett par gånger per år. Han beskriver sig själv som "lite av en snobb" när det gäller kläder.
Dessa skor köpte han i Ballys affär i London och Högström kommer ihåg att de var ganska dyra.
Skorna köptes för att användas som en finsko och kom också att brukas för detta ändamål. De har använts vid t ex besök på operan och middagsbjudningar. Även vid begravningar. Då de har en läderklack har han undvikit att slita på dem för mycket och vid dåligt väder/vintertid använt sig av galoscher för att skydda skorna. Skorna har använts tillsammans med mer formella, oftast mörka kostymer,
Skovården har bestått av att de borstades med svart skokräm, och skoblock efter användning. De har under perioder då de inte använts förvarats i en skokartong (ej originalkartongen) inlindade i silkepapper.
Modellnamnet för skorna är Apollo 11, vilket står i skon. Apollo 11 var också namnet på den första bemannade rymdfärden som landade på månen 1969. Troligen har Bally valt detta namn för att förknippas med något nytt och modernt för tiden.
