Den här skissboken, med ordet "Scrapbook" tryckt på ryggen, sammanställdes av Edla Ulrich (1816-1897), en svensk kvinna som tillbringade en stor del av sitt liv på ön St Barthélemy i Västindien. I boken skrev hon om och avbildade sitt liv på ön. På bokens försättsblad står "Anna, Ellen och Sigrid Ulrich. Gåfva av vår kära Faster Edla." På St Barthelemy var Edla guvernant åt sina brorsbarn Anna, Ellen och Sigrid. Hennes bror, Bror Ulrich, var svensk guvernör på ön mellan 1868 och 1878, då familjen återvände till Sverige.
I boken har Edla Ulrich avbildat hus, landskap och flora från St Barthelemy, som var i svensk ägo 1785-1878. Hon beskriver guvernörsbostaden ingående samt visar olika promenadvägar på den lilla ön med de hus, träd och växter som fanns där. På teckningarna finns även människor avbildade: spatserande och ridande herrar och damer men även svarta kvinnor som bär saker på sina huvuden. Slaveriet på ön avskaffades inte förrän 1847 och på 1870-talet levde ännu många av öns svarta invånare under svåra förhållanden.

Edla Ulrich föddes i Norrköping och var lärarinna. När hon var 52 år följde hon med sin bror kommendörkapten Bror Ulrich och hans hustru till St Barthélemy.
Brodern hade blivit utnämnd till guvernör på ön och Edla följde med som guvernant till familjens döttrar Anna, Ellen och Sigrid som då var 12, 11 och 10 år gamla. Efter 10 år på ön sålde Sverige ön till Frankrike och familjen lämnade St Barthélemy på fregatten Vanadis. Vi vet ingenting mera om Edlas liv. Hon avled i Stockholm 1897.
