Konstnären Severin Nilson (1846-1918) var en smedson från Björsgård i Asige (Falkenbergs kommun). Han studerade vid Konstakademin i Stockholm samt i Paris 1873-1875 och skapade sig ett namn som fotograf, målare, tecknare och kulturhistoriker. Severin Nilson är mest känd som folklivsskildrande fotograf. Motiven visar enkla människor i deras egen miljö, företrädesvis Halland. Han bodde i Stockholm men tillbringade somrarna i Halland. 1885 köpte han Björsgård och inredde till alteljé. Den är numera museum.
